Day 12 in the Big Brother household
That's the induction module pretty much squared away. Hopefully all of my ducks are in a row now and I am ready to become decisively engaged with consideration of 'the legacy of WW2'. I've started to read Gaddis's 'We Know Now' and already have had some of my preconceived theories slightly dislodged. It's quite a good read so far (and easily digestible at c.295 pages). In his first chapter, 'Dividing the World', Gaddis so far seems to be concentrating on the grand strategic interaction of Russian and American ideology during the interwar years (much of which being personality driven). Good stuff. I wonder if he will continue in this vein or look at events at a lower level, such as the effect that the relative military dispositions following Op Market Garden had on subsequent Soviet development (ie if they were allowed to advance much further into Germany, they would have greater access to technology and resources then they were to eventually enjoy during the Cold War). I'll continue to read over the weekend (maybe even finish it and move on to Young and Kent (a little more ambitious in terms of quantity at least).
